New book on healing power of hypnosis for kids

Parents around the country are searching for the best way to manage the physical and mental pain of their children and teens. So often the answers have been prescriptions and over the counter medicine, but one doctor is proving pills don’t need to be the only solution.

Dr. Ran Anbar is leading the way in holistic and alternative health treatments for his patients. After seeing how their symptoms could be worsened by anxiety and fear, he’s spent the past 23 years using pediatric clinical hypnosis to successfully treat more than 7,000 children. The benefits of hypnosis-facilitated therapy range from small improvements to complete cures. They include the empowerment of children with chronic health issues to feel more in control of their own minds, bodies, and circumstances. Hypnosis is painless, non-invasive, and cost effective. It doesn’t preclude any other treatment and drawbacks are virtually nonexistent.

Dr. Anbar has written about his methodology and how it can be replicated in “Changing Children’s Lives with Hypnosis: A Journey to the Center” (Rowman & Littlefield) The book is a timely collection of patients’ healing experiences, the story of how these events changed one physician’s approach to medicine, and the takeaway information parents and practitioners should consider as they deal with medical and psychological challenges in their children’s and patients’ lives.

In the book Dr. Anbar addresses:

•  Seven steps to guide children and teens toward strength and wellness

•  Seven ways parents can help children in a crisis

•  Questions to ask when considering whether hypnosis is right for your child

•  The common misconceptions about hypnosis

•  His journey from practicing pediatric pulmonology to include treating patients with clinical hypnosis In a world where the doctor’s primary role has become more of a technician – pinpoint a problem, prescribe a solution, and move to the next patient – hypnosis brings connection and art back into the process. Children deserve the opportunity to receive gentle, thoughtful, empowering, and effective treatment in whatever form it’s available.

Ran D. Anbar is board certified in both pediatric pulmonology and general pediatrics, offering hypnosis and counseling services at Center Point Medicine in La Jolla, California, and Syracuse, New York. Dr. Anbar is a fellow, approved consultant, and past president of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis.

In addition to his pediatric hypnosis work, Dr. Anbar served as a professor of pediatrics and medicine and the director of pediatric pulmonology at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, New York, for 21 years. He earned his medical degree from the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine and completed his pediatric residency and pediatric pulmonary fellowship training at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston.
