About Us

The Jewish Standard has been the Jewish voice of northern New Jersey since 1931, giving our community a wide range of stories, insights, and opinions on our world. The Jewish community here is huge and vibrant, spans the range of Jewish life, and offers a microcosm of the Jewish world.

We offer a mirror on that world to our readers.

We are nonpartisan and apolitical except insofar as we are strong supporters of Jews and of Israel. We work hard to represent every part of Jewish north Jersey.

Our Mission: A Statement of Aims and Principles

TO PROVIDE the Jewish communities of Bergen, Hudson, Passaic, and Rockland counties with an indispensable newspaper that will present local, national, and world news of Jewish interest.

TO OFFER analysis, interpretation, and information about events of the day, to stimulate the concern and response vital to the fulfillment of our responsibilities as Americans and as Jews.

TO ENRICH the cultural life of individuals and the community through features, news articles, reviews, and other material of Jewish interest.

TO PROVIDE a forum for members of the community.

The Jewish Standard is not affiliated with any program, organization, movement, or point of view, but is dedicated to giving expression to all phases of Jewish life.

The Jewish Standard is independent; it is committed to Jewish continuity and to Israel and America’s well-being.
