On Friday, September 11, Rabbi Mordechai Kanelsky of Bris Avrohom attended a memorial at Newark Airport, where he spoke at the commemoration marking 25 years since the attack on the World Trade Center.

In his remarks, Rabbi Kanelsky cited Chapter 27 of Tehillim, recited during the days leading up to Rosh Hashanah. “King David declares that he does not fear war because his trust is solely in Hashem, and his greatest yearning is to remain close to Him,” he said. “So too, as a country that boldly proclaims, ‘In God We Trust,’ we must not live in fear. Our faith and trust in Hashem give us the strength to face even the greatest challenges.” He added that we can “properly commemorate the thousands who died by demonstrating gratitude for the gift of our own existence. We appreciate the gift of life as we honor those whose lives were tragically cut short.”

Rabbi Avremy Kanelsky concluded with “On 9/11, we remember our loved ones who are no longer able to carry out their dreams and aspirations. It is our obligation — and our privilege — to become their hands and feet and to carry forward their unfinished missions.”
