Lawyers tackle the pursuit of justice
More than 800 attorneys and judges participated in the 19th annual Jewish law symposium on September 16 at the Birchwood Manor in Whippany and also online. It featured a panel discussion, “The Role of Truth in the Pursuit of Justice.”
David M. Schizer, Columbia Law School dean emeritus, professor of law and economics, and former CEO of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, was among the speakers. Rabbi Shalom Lubin, founder of the Symposium and Chabad of SE Morris County, moderated a panel discussion.
“In the past years, we have been living in a society where the traditional values of truth, honesty, and integrity seem to have met their counterparts with disinformation, alternative facts and misspeaking,” Rabbi Lubin said. “Navigating the complex topics of truth and the pursuit of justice through the lens of both civil and Talmudic law, and 2,000 years of Jewish ethics and wisdom was our goal for this program, which was most intriguing and relevant.”
