Lavish Lunches, an annual event that supports a broad range of programs and services for seniors in the community, is sponsored by the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades in Tenafly.

This year, it is set for Thursday, March 2, at 10:15 a.m. Funds raised through the program help seniors age in place and remain socially, mentally, and physically connected to the world around them.

The morning will begin with a light breakfast at the home of Alissa and Zachary Epstein of Tenafly. It will feature a culinary presentation by seasoned executive chef Josh Capon. After he graduated from culinary school, Mr. Capon was discovered by legendary chef Charlie Palmer, worked as an extern at Mr. Palmer’s famous, upscale restaurant, Aureole, and later assisted Mr. Palmer in opening the Lenox Room.

Mr. Capon went on to work for David Burke at the Park Avenue Café and then spent a year in Europe fine-tuning his culinary skills. He became sous chef at the St. Regis Hotel’s Astor Court, reconnected with Mr. Palmer, and became executive chef of Alva, Mr. Palmer’s American bistro. Mr. Capon later took the reins as executive chef of Lure Fishbar, a seafood and sushi restaurant, then partnered with the owners to launch the B&B Winepub in SoHo and El Toro Blanco in the West Village.

Mr. Capon is a six-time winner of the People’s Choice award at the NYC Wine & Food Festival’s Burger Bash, has appeared on “Rachael Ray,” “Live with Regis and Kelly,” “CBS Early Show,” “Today,” and Food Network, and has been featured in the New York Times, New York Magazine, and Time Out New York.

After his presentation, participants will attend their choice of lunch, served in local homes and other venues, where hosts and hostesses will provide a memorable dining experience, each with a unique theme.

Lorin Cook and Brandi Rubin are the co-chairs. Their committee includes special events chair Marci Ginzburg. Sponsors include Artistic Tile, Gilly’s Organics, Goldstein Jewelers, M. Ross & Associates LLC, Myron, Orly Chen, SeeSaw, ShopRite, and Treeco, The Real Estate Equity Company.
