The Frisch girls’ varsity hockey team won their first championship last Sunday against Ma’ayanot by a score of 2-1. Led by head coach Yaakov Lisker and former player and current assistant coach Allyson Gronowitz, the Cougars made history in their still-budding program.

Founded nine years ago, the girls’ varsity hockey team once made the semifinals a few years ago. The team of 15 girls in grades nine through 12 play in the Metropolitan Yeshiva High School Hockey League, consisting of eight teams in their division. Four teams make the playoffs.

“They played like a team,” head of Frisch sports Aron Coren said in response to why they succeeded this season.

The team practices twice a week and plays recreationally.
