Zoom discussions on antisemitism on college campuses

The Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey presents “Antisemitism on College Campuses – Preparing You for the Spring Semester,” an online program for college students, on Wednesday, February 7, at 7 p.m. (Parents are encouraged to join the program.)

Topics include a brief history of Israel, inflammatory terms, antisemitism on campus, student rights, communication, and safety. There will be student-led learning and discussion by Jewish college students for Jewish college students.

The Bergen County section of the National Council of Jewish Women presents “Rising Antisemitism on U.S. College Campuses,” on Zoom, on February 12, at 7 p.m. Deena Yellin, an award-winning reporter for the Record and USA Today network, will moderate the discussion. Panelists include Cornell University Judeo-Islamic studies professor Ross Brann; Rabbi Ira Dounn, the associate director of Princeton University’s Center of Jewish Life; Lily Cohen, a Northwestern University senior and NCJW BCS Bach scholarship recipient; Jonah Scherl, co-president of Chabad students at Duke University, and Kaylee Werner, a junior at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana.

The discussion will cover personal experiences of antisemitism on campuses, combating antisemitism, ideological differences among Jewish students, the effects of the Israel-Hamas war, academic freedom and free speech, interactions with faculty and administrations, allyships and more.
