Teaneck Community Chorus marks 25th anniversary concert
The Teaneck Community Chorus performs a concert, “Good Causes, Good Songs,” on Sunday, January 21, at 3 p.m., at Teaneck High School. Doors open at 2:30. The concert includes favorite songs from the choir’s 25 years.
The group sings to inspire, uplift, and grow understanding across the Teaneck community and celebrate its diversity. “The music of the world is the music of Teaneck,” Wes Matsui, chair of the music committee, said. “So, in this concert, we’re singing in Hebrew, Yiddish, Spanish, Italian, and Arabic, as well as English.”
In past concerts the chorus has sung in Aboriginal Taiwanese, Armenian, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Mandarin, Navaho, Portuguese, Swahili, Ukrainian, Xhosa, and Zulu.
“Music is a big, beautiful tent where everyone’s welcome,” said Steven Bell, the chorus’s artistic director. “It’s the great unifier that helps bring down walls that divide people from one another.”
Teresa-Marie Gotanco is the accompanist, and soloist Azaria Best from Teaneck High School will sing.
The Puffin Foundation, Ltd., helped fund the event, and the Bergen County Division of Historic and Cultural Affairs administered a grant from funds granted by the New Jersey Council on the Arts. Follow the chorus at: www.teaneckcommunitychorus.org, on Facebook, on Instagram @teaneckcommunitychorus1
