Journalists have a professional responsibility to present the news accurately. Period.

And Jewish leaders have a moral responsibility to accurately characterize the statements of public figures, even when they are offended by a speaker’s remarks.

Morton Klein, president of the Zionist Organization of America, crossed a line when he paraphrased Archbishop Desmond Tutu in ’00’, incorrectly quoting him as having equated Israel with Hitler and apartheid.
