Security to improve at Jewish campus

The Rockland Jewish Community Campus has hired a consulting firm to provide an assessment of and make recommendation for the building’s security systems and protocols.

Meanwhile, the campus has implemented an interim plan to cope with security concerns that have arisen in the wake of the December shooting at the Sandy Hook elementary school in Newtown, Conn. The campus houses several Jewish organizations including JCC Rockland, the Jewish Federation of Rockland County, the Rockland Jewish Academy, Rockland Jewish Family Service, Hadassah of the Lower N.Y. State Region and the State of Israel Bonds.

JCC members, RJA families and campus employees will be required to swipe their key fobs at the reception desk every time they enter the building through the main lobby entrance. Those attending classes or coming to a scheduled meeting at any organization should check in at the front desk. Those without fobs will need to sign in. And access from the building through Jewish Family Service will discontinue.

An interim campus concierge will be hired to manage the transition. During this time, the organization will be adding photographs to its key fob database for anyone who does not have a digital photo on file.
