Rutgers Chabad plans Shabbos for 1,000 students
Chabad House at Rutgers University in New Brunswick will host the 4th annual “Shabbos for 1000 — A Powerful Celebration of Jewish Unity” from Friday, February 28, through Saturday, March 1. The Rutgers University Chabad House, the largest in the nation, is planning for 1,000 college students to unite for a Shabbat celebration, strengthening Jewish identity, unity, and connection to Israel.
There will be candle lighting, services, a festive Shabbat meal, speakers, and a special Havdalah performance with Simcha Leiter.
“The vision of our supporters has truly come to life with this program,” Rabbi Yosef Carlebach, Chabad House-Lubavitch’s executive director, said. “‘Shabbos for 1000’ is a testament to the power of Jewish unity and a living tribute to the memory of Danny Kahane, z’l, longtime benefactor and Chabad House master builder.”
“Shabbat has kept the Jewish people together for generations,” Rabbi Baruch Goodman, Chabad House’s campus director, added. “To share its warmth with over 1,000 students is truly groundbreaking.” All college-age students are invited, regardless of background or affiliation.
