The Teaneck Township Council voted unanimously to rename the stretch of Windsor Road in front of Temple Emeth as Rabbi Louis J. Sigel Way, in honor of the late rabbi emeritus. In coordination with township officials, a dedication ceremony was held as part of the Rabbi Louis J. Sigel Scholar-in-Residence weekend last month. Speakers included Teaneck’s mayor, Michael Pagan, who recalled Rabbi Sigel’s impact on both Temple Emeth and Teaneck during his tenure, from 1960 to 1992.

Rabbi Jeffrey K. Salkin was the shul’s Rabbi Louis J. Sigel scholar-in-residence that weekend. His overall subject was “Martini Judaism:  For Those Who Want to Be Shaken and Stirred.” He also signed copies of his new book, “Tikkun Ha’am/Repairing Our People: Israel and the Crisis of Liberal Judaism.”
