OJC youth group recognized at international convention

Orangetown Jewish Center’s USY chapter won international chapter of the year at the 2012 United Synagogue Youth International Convention in Boston in December.

Social and educational programming, membership growth and social action efforts were all considered in singling out OJC’s chapter, which had already received similar recognition for its youth community at the regional level at the Metropolitan New York Regional Convention in May.

Thirteen OJC youth community members attended the convention, which attracted nearly 800 students from the United States and Canada. OJC received recognition for a variety of programs, including best religions/educational programming and best membership/Kadima programming, among others. OJC member Val Weisler was named METNY’s “Changemaker” an honor given to a teen seen to be making an outstanding difference in the world each day.
