Local colleges mark Holocaust Remembrance Day

Dr. Erin Joanna Augis, Ph.D., pictured right, a sociology professor and the interim director of the Gross Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Ramapo College of New Jersey, watches the webinar “From Awareness to Action: Confronting Antisemitism At Home and Abroad.” The January 27 program was in commemoration of International Holocaust Day. Dr. Robert Williams, deputy director for international affairs at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum; Dr. Laura Cohen, executive director of the Harriet and Kenneth Kupferberg Holocaust Center at Queensborough Community College; and Dr. Mehnaz Afridi, director of the Holocaust, Genocide & Interfaith Education Center at Manhattan College are onscreen.

The program was organized by the Harriet & Kenneth Kupferberg Holocaust Center at Queensborough Community College and was co-sponsored by the Holocaust Museum and Center for Tolerance & Education at Rockland Community College, the Gross Center for Holocaust & Genocide Studies at Ramapo College of New Jersey, the Center for the Study of Genocide and Human Rights at Rutgers University, the Emil A. and Jenny Fish Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Yeshiva University, the Holocaust, Genocide and Interfaith Education Center at Manhattan College, the Holocaust & Human Rights Education Center in White Plains, the Holocaust Memorial and Tolerance Center of Nassau County, the Wagner College Holocaust Center, and the Center for Social Justice and Human Understanding at Suffolk County Community College.
