Rabbi Feldman’s way
There is nobody who deserves the street naming more than Rabbi Feldman.
As president of the Bergen County Medical Society in 1983 and 1984 and under the influence of my pulpit rabbi, David Feldman, I convened a meeting of the 1200 members, spouses and auxiliary members at a venue in Mahwah. (See lead story in the Jewish Standard of October 7, 1983.) Sensing that there was a need to update doctors on the matter of biomedical ethics, I selected “Biomedical Ethics” as the theme for the meeting and convinced Rabbi Feldman to lead a panel of clergymen. Needless to say, he did so brilliantly while simplifying his profound insights and tailoring them to our needs. In so doing he made a remarkable contribution to the medical community.

He’s voting Republican
In response to Richard Rosenthal’s letter of March 27th asking for whom to vote for in the 11th Congressional race, the answer is simply Joe Hathaway.
He is a moderate Republican who has pragmatic solutions in controlling the high cost of living in New Jersey related to property taxes, health insurance, student loans and the like. Please check out his platform.
I have met with him, and his guiding principle is doing what’s in the best interests of the 11th Congressional District, not hew to any political orthodoxy.
His opponent Analilia Mejia was campaign director for Bernie Sanders’ presidential run, the same Sanders who’s pushing Senate resolutions imposing an arms embargo against Israel as it faces attacks from three fronts. She’s accused Israel of genocide and according to the New York Post opposes giving it even “a penny” of U.S. aid.
She headed the New Jersey Working Families party that has called for defunding the police. She has called for Medicare for All, when Medicare is approaching insolvency unless Congress acts.
The contrast between Hathaway and Mejia can’t be more stark regarding Israel. He supports military and security assistance for Israel as a bulwark against radical Islam and democratic ally. He will push for the acceptance by New Jersey of the IHRA definition of antisemitism already accepted by dozens of other states. He will be there for the Jewish community.
Richard, the answer to your question is to vote for Joe Hathaway on April 16th.

Horseradish with a kick!
I also use horseradish root (“A sweet tale about bitter herbs,” March 20). I use the bottom roots (clean out the dirt well) for the seder plate and for dipping in charoset. I grind/grate the white part (after peeling it like a carrot) to make my own horseradish for the gefilte fish. Add a little lemon juice to keep it white and prevent oxidizing and turning black, and/or add red borscht or beet juice if you prefer red horseradish.
For the cost of the whole piece, even on sale, you are getting more value for that money by using the whole piece. Prepare your guests, it’s horseradish with a kick!
