Deport him!

It behooves letter writer “experts”, when offering emotional “facts”, they at least take the time to fact-check their opinions. To wit, letter writer Jay Goldberg, regarding the hopefully impending deportation of Khalil Mahmoud, presents US law 8 USC1227(a)(4)(C)(i), that deportation is allowed where “[a]n alien whose presence or activities in the United States the Secretary of State has reasonable ground to believe would have potentially serious adverse foreign policy consequences for the United States is deportable.” Mr. Goldberg opines that Khalil Mahmoud’s actions do not pose a threat to US security, hence, he should stay put.

He could not be more hopelessly wrong! Suppose you’re here causing civil unrest, assaulting faculty members, assaulting people on the street, and chanting for people’s deaths. In that case, you are no longer talking about First Amendment rights and are no longer wanted in the United States. If you serve notice on society, your privilege (and not a right) to remain in the US with a student visa is no longer valid. That said, Mr. Mahmoud is being deported for visa violations and not for security issues. Had he been charged with US security threats, he would’ve been charged as a domestic terrorist.

More on herring

I’m deeply appreciative and wish to thank the Jewish Standard, as well as your wonderful writer Abby Klein Leichman, for the interview that appeared in the paper this past weekend (“There Will Be Herring”). It was a lot of fun reminiscing about Teaneck and also speaking about life in Modiin. As mentioned in the article, my good friend Hillel Kuhr, of Hillel’s Heimish Herring, is providing kiddush (with herring) each shabbat to many brave chayalim in Gaza, Lebanon and in the Shomron. It is deeply appreciated by them and provides a big morale boost. If anyone is interested in helping sponsor Kiddush For Our Chayalim, please email him at Hillel_kuhr@yahoo.com.

B’sorot tovot,
