The pictured sewing machine, right,  was sold at L. Bamberger & Co. department store in Newark, which was open from 1892 to 1992. The rare find has been added to the archives of the New Jersey Historical Society in Newark. Donald M. Karp of the Greater MetroWest area of New Jersey donated it to include in the society’s current exhibit, “Meet Me Under Bamberger’s Clock.”

Linda Forgosh is the exhibit’s curator, Steven Tettamanti is the NJHS’s executive director, and James Amemasor is the group’s archivist. The Bamberger exhibit’s hours are posted on the society’s website, jerseyhistory.org; you also can email library@jerseyhistory.org to schedule an appointment.
