Temple Emanuel of the Pascack Valley will install its new cantor, Alan Sokoloff, on Friday, January 8. The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m., with a community dinner. Guests and congregants not at the dinner are invited to kabbalat Shabbat services, which will include the installation at 8 p.m. A festive Oneg Shabbat will follow.
Cantor Sokoloff was a protégé of Cantor Howard Lew. He became a member of the Cantors Assembly in 1990 and worked in Albany and Mamaroneck, N. Y., and Des Moines, Iowa. He has prepared more than 1,800 bnai mitzvah students during his career.
Cantor Sokoloff also is a founding member of Kol Hazzanim, the Westchester Board of Cantors. He and his wife, Erica, and their children, Arielle and Ranan, recently moved to Woodcliff Lake.
