Walk explores World War II plane crash over Teaneck

On May 24, 1942, less than six months after Pearl Harbor, with Nazi U-boats sinking ships visible from the New Jersey shore, two planes crashed over Teaneck. As debris rained down — amazingly, no one died — people came to the logical if incorrect conclusion that the war had come to Bergen County

Local amateur historian Daniel Z. Levin, a professor at Rutgers Business School and a longtime member of the Teaneck Historical Society, has studied the crash and its aftermath. He will lead a tour of the sites affected by the crash. The walk, set for Sunday, June 2, at 10:30 a.m., will start at the northeast corner of Votee Park, at Court Street and Queen Anne Road, and will take about two hours to cover the three-mile route. To join, email the historical society at mailto:teaneckhistoricalsociety@gmail.com, or just show up at Votee Park.
