Shop is good for everyone
Reading “Shopping for a shop class” (November 28) brought back my own experience of feeling inadequate in preparation of starting my engineering studies in the early 1950s.
Unlike my fellow male students, I had never made a model kit of any type, used any tools, electrified anything, or had practice in any form of spatial visualization.
I think it should be mandatory for all male and female students be given an elementary type shop course where exposure to some of the above skills in JHS or HS could be attained. It certainly would have been useful for me.
