Remembering Sam Zaro

Remembering Sam Zaro

His friends used to say, “There is only one Zaro” (“A butcher, a baker, a … restaurateur,” August 2). He would respond, “Is there room for two?” And how right he was! Although you touched on his generosity it didn’t scratch the surface. If you asked for a donation, whether for a Jewish cause or not, he was there, asking how much. He touched those around him with his unending – and eyebrow-raising – stories that will be retold whenever friends and family talk about his life. He was truly a person I thought would live forever. Although we are some 20 years younger, my wife and I were fortunate to have shared many a pleasant evening together with Sam and Edythe, who made us laugh with their Burns and Allen wit. We were truly blessed by having Sam and his wonderful family part of our lives.
