Planning for the future of siblings with special needs
Ohel New Jersey offers a panel discussion, “Looking Ahead Together: A Sibling’s Guide to Future Planning & Support,” on Monday, July 13, from 7 to 9 p.m., at Lazy Bean Café in Teaneck. It’s for adult siblings of people with developmental disabilities. The panel will be made up of professionals and advocates with backgrounds in psychology, estate planning, and education, or who have lived experience supporting people with developmental disabilities. Topics include caregiving responsibilities, guardianship transitions, financial planning, out-of-state siblings.
The speakers include Dr. Leah Knapp, a licensed clinical psychologist who specializes in relationships, family dynamics, and mental health; Debra Tsadok, an estate planning attorney with over 40 years of experience helping families navigate guardianships, special needs trusts, and long-term planning; and Aliza Weinberg, an educator, mentor, and sister of a sibling with developmental disabilities. The program is for anyone helping to care for someone now or planning for the future. It’s goal is to provide practical guidance and an opportunity to ask questions.
