NCJW honors high school senior leaders

The Bergen County section of the National Council of Jewish Women awarded $1,000 scholarships to eight young women at its June 11 board meeting. The scholarships were in honor of their current achievements and their potential for leadership in the years ahead.

The Bergen County section awards endowed scholarships to young Jewish women graduating from Bergen County public high schools who plan to attend a four-year college or university. Applicants must have excellent grades, participated in school and/or community extracurricular activities in a meaningful way, and identify with Jewish values.

Brooke Bokser of Northern Valley Regional High School-Demarest received the Podorefsky Family Scholarship. She will attend Cornell University. Maya Matlick from Dumont High School was awarded the Bach Fuld Scholarship and will attend Pace University.

The Marjorie G. Aerenson Memorial Scholarships were awarded to Chloe Heller of Ramapo High School, who is bound for Dickinson College, and to Lisa Sheynerman of Glen Rock High School, who will attend the University of Rochester.

Haylin Roth from Northern Valley Regional High School-Demarest received the Kabakow Family Foundation Scholarship and will study at Ohio State University. Nicole Nenner graduated from Northern Valley High School-Old Tappan and was awarded the Wolfeiler-Simon Family Scholarship to attend the University of Wisconsin.

Jenna Walker of Fair Lawn High School was awarded the Eth Family Scholarship and will attend the College of New Jersey.

The National Council of Jewish Women awarded this year’s scholarship to Zoe Clarke of Northern Valley-Old Tappan, who will attend the University of Delaware.

Evalyn Brownstein co-chaired the scholarship committee. Members included Nan Matlick, Bea Podorefsky, Peggy Kabakow, Liz Warms, Phyllis Grossman Kaplan, Henrietta Wolfeiler, Hilary Eth and Grace Fuld.
