JFCS holds its annual meeting
Jewish Family and Children’s Services of Northern New Jersey held its annual meeting at Young Israel of Teaneck on June 26, marking the end of the 2023-2024 fiscal year.
The agency’s CEO, Susan Greenbaum, outlined its accomplishments over the past year. JFCS continues to be the community’s social and mental health lifeline; its work ranged from the emergency services it provided after October 7 to its successful new programs and services.
Joanne De Scherer was honored as JFCS Volunteer of Year; she also received JFCS’s first Presidential Volunteer Service award. A lifelong volunteer, she is involved with JFCS socialization programs for older adults, including Friendly Visitors and Telephone Reassurance.
Outgoing board members Sue Feldman, Sue Nagler, and Helen Graf were feted for their exemplary service to the community. As a surprise, JFCS announced that Ms. Graf’s family had established an endowment fund in her honor, the Helen Graf Family Endowment for Food Insecurity. It will sustain the agency’s work in fighting food insecurity for decades to come.
Board president Sima Kern spoke about JFCS’s mission of empowering people and transforming their lives. She expressed her pride in the JFCS team for their unwavering dedication to the well-being of the Northern New Jersey community. She installed the new board for the 2024-2025 fiscal year and welcomed JFCS’s five new board members — Ronit Arginteanu, David Bindelglass, David Goodman, Deena Jarashow, and Ilene Laufer.
