Dresner Library is dedicated at Wayne shul

On Sunday, June 11, the Rabbi Israel S. Dresner Center for Collaborative Programs and Learning at Temple Beth Tikvah was dedicated at the shul. Distinguished guests included Congressman Bill Pascrell, Mayors Chris Vergano of Wayne and André Sayegh of Paterson; historian, author, and community activist Jimmy Richardson; and Rabbi Dr. Susan Einbinder, the keynote speaker who was a student and mentee of Rabbi Dresner. The Mosaic Choir, which includes members from Paterson and Temple Beth Tikvah, performed, and there was a dessert reception.

Arthur Barchenko, a Temple Beth Tikvah founding member and chair of the Dresner Center, and Shirley Laiks, TBT’s longtime TBT educator, planned the program.

The Dresner Center, a library within the synagogue, holdds hundreds of volumes that Rabbi Dresner, z”l, and his family donated. The community is welcome to use it to enhance the knowledge of Jewish life within the context of world history.

The center will offer lectures and programs. Its partners include the Wayne Library and other public libraries, the YWCA of Wayne, the Jewish Historical Society, and Ramapo College of New Jersey.
