Digitalizing Torah literature
Sefaria is a nonprofit organization creating a massive, interconnected, living library of Jewish texts, with interface and parallel translations, all free. Mr. Israel will describe the ongoing project to digitalize Torah literature and make it available to teachers, students, and the public. He will also talk about the many technological changes Torah has weathered, beginning with writing the oral Torah.
Mr. Israel has led Sefaria’s engineering team and is in charge of the data pipeline — getting texts into the system and making them most useful for students, teachers, and technologists. A veteran of Israeli startups, he lives in New York and studied computer science and philosophy at Boston University.
The shul is at 389 W. Englewood Ave. For information, call (201) 837-2795.
