College holds first alternative graduation for Jewish students

When Hillel of Rockland directors Rabbi Dov and Shevy Oliver learned that Rockland Community College’s commencement was scheduled for Shavuot, they suggested to senior college officials that the college hold an alternative graduation ceremony to allow students and families observing Shavuot a chance to celebrate their milestone. Nearly 150 people, including family, community members, college trustees, administrators, and faculty, attended the alternative ceremony on May 24 in the RCC Student Union.
