Author to discuss memoir
Michelle Weinfeld, a Holocaust survivor’s granddaughter, originally from East Brunswick, author of “From Generation to Generation: A Memoir of Food, Family, and Identity in the Aftermath of the Shoah,” speaks, on Zoom, for the Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust in New York. The program is set for Tuesday, August 26, at 7 p.m.
Her talk is all about her relationship with her late grandfather, Poppy, in a narrative mediated by food. She shares her grandfather’s thoughts of loss and rebuilding, layered with her journey to self-acceptance in the face of antisemitism. The book aims to show readers that trauma does not affect only the individual, but can transcend generations. The book includes stories of family holidays, stories of survival, and even recipes, all intertwined with their special bond.
