YU women’s group unveils gala
The Yeshiva University Women’s Organization will hold its annual benefit gala luncheon on June 13 at the Grand Tier at the Metropolitan Opera House at Lincoln Center on West 62nd Street in Manhattan. A performance of American Ballet Theater’s “Romeo & Juliet” will follow.
Arlene Fox of Brooklyn will be honored for more than two decades of service to the organization as a board member and active volunteer. She will accept the award in memory of her husband, Moshe Yehuda Fox, z”l. Not only has Ms. Fox been active in YUWO, she also held presidential and vice-presidential positions in Emunah of America for almost half a century. She is a member of the Zionist Organization of America, America for a Safe Israel, and the Kingsway Jewish Center.
YUWO was founded in 1924 to raise funds to build the first student dormitories, and its mission, to provide food, clothing, and funds for the students’ personal welfare, has continued. The President’s Society for Torah Chesed endowment fund provides monthly stipends for undergraduate students whose financial needs are not covered by scholarships, including food, clothing, textbooks, and health care. YUWO also supports educational programs on campus, shabbatons, the Torah Chesed Counseling Center Fund for medical and counseling needs, and general scholarship support.
