Young author to discuss her intergenerational Holocaust memoir
Michelle Weinfeld will discuss her new book, “From Generation to Generation,” on Thursday, October 19, at 6 p.m., at Ramapo College’s Trustees Pavilion 1; it also will be streamed on Zoom. Her talk, “Food and Holocaust Memory,” is all about her relationship with her grandfather, a Holocaust survivor, in a narrative mediated by food. The Gross Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies at Ramapo sponsors the program.
Ms. Weinfeld tells the story of her grandfather and his thoughts about loss and rebuilding, layered with her own journey to self-acceptance in the face of antisemitism. The book aims to show readers that trauma does not affect only the individual but can touch generations.
The book includes stories of family holidays, stories of survival, and recipes, all intertwined with the bond between Poppy and his granddaughter.
The book will be for sale at the program, and Ms. Weinfeld will sign copies. For information, go to www.ramapo.edu/holocaust; for parking pass requests, email holgen@ramapo.edu.
