Yavneh Academy in Paramus held its 11th annual Benjamin Schwartz Memorial 5K run /1 Mile Fun Run on Sunday, November 8, at the Westfield Garden State Plaza. Over 1,000 people attended the event, named for the brother of Yavneh parent Mendy Schwartz, and raised nearly $45,000 for Yavneh Academy scholarships.

Donna Riker of HNH Fitness in Oradell led a pre-race workout. There was also a buffet breakfast sponsored by local restaurants and businesses and tee shirts for participants. The event, organized by Joanne Zayat and Amy Buchsbayew, both of Teaneck, culminated with the presentation of medals to the top runners in the various age categories. Anthony Fatuzzo, 31, of Fair Lawn, was the overall 5K winner and Michael Brown, 26, of Westwood, won the one-mile race.
