Y teens will perform ‘Chicago’

Wayne YMCA’s ACT’in Teen Ensemble will perform “Chicago (High School Edition)” next weekend. There will be a performance on Saturday, July 21, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

In the Roaring Twenties Chicago, chorine Roxie Hart murders a faithless lover and convinces her hapless husband, Amos, to take the rap…until he finds out he’s been duped and turns on Roxie. Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another “merry murderess,” Velma Kelly, vie for the spotlight and the headlines, ultimately joining forces in search of the “American Dream” — fame, fortune, and acquittal.

The book is by Fred Ebb and Bob Fosse, the music by John Kander, and the lyrics by Fred Ebb. It is based on the play by Maurine Dallas Watkins. The script adaptation is by David Thompson. “Chicago (High School Edition)” is presented by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.
