Working together
During the past few weeks, we at the Solomon Schechter Day School of Bergen County have been privileged to see many wonderful examples of how various institutions within our community have effectively connected and collaborated to meet a myriad of challenges.
With budget cuts in several towns threatening the normal logistics of private school busing, representatives of the various day schools in the area worked together to share information, monitor the situation, and keep our respective families informed so that they could attend meetings and have their voices heard.
Most recently, Hurricane Irene left flood damage and power outages in its wake. Members of the federation staff called to offer their help. And the JCC on the Palisades responded by hosting our faculty orientation and professional development training sessions in their beautiful board room. The Schechter faculty and administration is deeply grateful to Avi Lewinson, the executive director of the JCC and to his team, led by Danny Rocke, chief financial officer, and Paul Costa, facilities director, for their warmth and hospitality.

May we all experience fewer crises but have continued cooperation and increased collaboration in the new year.
