A hearty yasher koach to Teaneck’s Gitl Schaechter-Viswanath.
A few years back we reported on the publication of her English-Yiddish Dictionary, in which she (and her collaborator Paul Glasser) completed the pioneering lexicography of her father, Mordkhe Schaechter.
Now, after three printings, Indiana University Press has released a revised second edition, which adds a thousand new words — some neologisms, some reflecting spoken chassidic Yiddish — to the first 55,000.
The book also has earned an unexpected plaudit from Amazon. It was tagged as the number one new release in the “Christian Bible Dictionaries & Encyclopedias” category.
