Who cares more?

Who cares more?

Rabbi Engelmayer (“The Torah is no Tea Party,” Sept. 2, 2011) eloquently says “… each of us must vote for those candidates who we believe…are best suited to help us carry out God’s program of creating…a more caring world.” But then he implies that fiscal conservatives, or Tea Party activists, are not caring people. Here I disagree. In fact, in an interesting book entitled “Who Really Cares?” (Basic Books, 2007), Arthur Brooks finds that conservatives are more charitable than liberals! In the end, I think both liberals and conservatives want a more caring world, but they differ on how to achieve this goal. Hence it is not unreasonable to consider the arguments and evidence advanced by conservatives.
