What is Sitting Shiva?
When a loved one dies, nobody is certain how to mourn. So tradition is often embraced, even by those who aren't particularly traditional.
When Jana’s father was dying, she feared her faith and spirituality, which she shared specifically with her dad, would die with him.
The seven day mourning period otherwise known as Shiva, became a comfort for her during the very painful and sad times she felt when her father passed away.
One of the explanations for sitting Shiva is for the community to take over, allowing the mourners to sit and focus on their loved ones without having to do anything else. Jana said that this was one of the most meaningful part of the seven day period.
