At a recent Zoom Shabbat service at Temple Beth Tikvah, Wendy Bowes of Wayne was honored with the George Rafes award for volunteering. George Rafes epitomized a selfless volunteer who gave with a full heart and never looked for recognition.
Ms. Bowes has been a member of the Wayne shul since 1978; her years of service are consistent with the value of tikkun olam — fixing the world. She’s chaired galas, brought a Torah to a needy synagogue in Ohio, and been involved in the synagogue’s sisterhood, food pantry efforts, Caring Community, Sunshine Committee, and blood drives. She owns and teaches at the Drawing Room Art School, teaches art in public school, and works in party and floral design.
A plaque was presented to Ms. Bowes as people from many states gathered to celebrate her. For more information, go to templebethtikvahnj.org.
