Wayne’s leaders unite for Chanukah
The three rabbis who work in Wayne — Chabad, Conservative, and Reform — and its mayor created a contemporary miracle outside the Wayne Township Municipal Building at a community menorah lighting last month.
The three rabbis have been meeting once a month to study together. For example, Rabbi Meeka Simerly presented the weekly Torah portion from a female perspective, using “A Women’s Commentary” from the Union of Reform Judaism Press. Rabbi Randall Mark introduced the group to “Questions and Answers” from the Conservative movement’s Rabbinical Assembly, and Rabbi Michel Gurkov brought discussions and arguments from in the Gemara to the table. Together, they have been learning and expanding their horizons, while acknowledging similarities and appreciating differences.
