Wayne’s Temple Beth Tikvah co-hosted its Martin Luther King Shabbat on Friday, January 12, with the First African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church of Paterson and Congregation Shomrei Torah of Wayne. Arthur Barchenko from Temple Beth Tikvah spearheaded the program.

The joint service was led by the Reverend Dr. Douglas L. Maven, pastor of the AME church; Dale Van Rensalier, the First Zion Church of Paterson’s choir leader; Rabbi Brian Beal of Temple Beth Tikvah, and Rabbi Randall Mark of Shomrei Torah. Naomi Adler Beal also joined in song at the prayer service, and the MLK Choir accompanied it.

Rev. Dr. Douglas L. Maven, Arthur Barchenko, and choir leader Skip Van Rensalier.

Rev. Maven offered meaningful music and a prayer for peace between all people. The program was presented to a full house from all three congregations and the community, both in person and virtually. There was a wine and cheese reception before the service, and desserts were served at a festive oneg Shabbat afterward.
