The Dor L’Dor group at Congregation Ahavath Torah in Englewood offers a virtual Zoom tour of the exhibit “Edith Halpert and the Rise of American Art” at the Jewish Museum on Tuesday, January 5, at 11:30 a.m. Nelly Benedek, the museum’s deputy director of education and programs, will lead the tour.
Edith Halpert was a pioneer in the world of American modern and folk art. Despite the challenges she faced, she succeeded as a female immigrant and as a Jew, promoting avant-garde artists such as Georgia O’Keefe and Ben Shahn. From 1930 to 1950 she was New York’s most powerful dealer of American art, and she inspired generations of Americans to value the genre.
The New York Times heralded the show as “a crowded, enthralling exhibit …with a fascinating back story that is rarely told on this scale.”
There is no charge for the tour, but participation is limited. For more information, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
