Troop balances Boy Scout lore and Jewish law
Question: What makes Boy Scout Troop ”6 different from other troops in the area? Why is it all other troops will build a campfire on Saturdays, but not Troop ”6? Why do other troops attend any Boy Scout camp without reservation?
Answer: Troop ”6 is the only shomer Shabbat Boy Scout troop in Bergen, Hudson, and Passaic counties. Established in the ’70s in Englewood, the troop is now affiliated with the Jewish Center of Teaneck and maintains a mix of Orthodox, Conservative, and Reform Scouts from Bergen County and Riverdale, N.Y.
