Eighteen local teens participating in the Teen Adventures Travel and Volunteer Camp at the Kaplen JCC on the Palisades in Tenafly recently traveled to Boston. There they took part in a special social service project, Cradles to Crayons, to help financially challenged families get a head start preparing their children for the school year.

Before leaving for Boston, the teens collected sneakers, children’s clothes, crib sheets, and toiletries, including shampoo, soap, combs, toothpaste, and toothbrushes, to bring with them. In Boston, the group volunteered at Cradles to Crayons, assembling clothing packages for families in need. They also pooled some of the money their parents gave them for their trip and donated it to buy the children new backpacks and school supplies.

The five-week summer camp, for seventh- through tenth-graders, features weekly community service projects and trips to amusement and water parks, beaches, and sporting events, and extended getaways.
