Three Cheers for Jeanette MacDonald!

She’s the singer (1903-1965) who made so many delightful movie operettas ““ “Naughty Marietta,” “Maytime,” “Sweethearts,” and so forth.

At one time, her manager was Charles Wagner. Her publicist was Constance Hope, whose other clients included Lily Pons and Lauritz Melchior.

Wagner was annoyed by Hope’s influence over Jeanette, and in the singer’s presence referred to Hope as a “pushy Jewess.”

She fired him on the spot.
