The community responds…

The “firestorm” in reaction to the Standard’s publication of the announcement of the wedding of Avi Smolen and Justin Rosen is disturbing. No one who knows these men as individuals could doubt their commitment to Jewish learning, tzedakah, and a life of ma’asim tovim. United, their dedication – and contribution – to Yiddishkeit will be magnified. If people are “hurt” by an announcement, they can choose to skip that section of the paper. We live in Bergen County, not Mea Shaarim.

It was honorable of The Jewish Standard to bring up the issue and state the paper’s policy decision. Now, with some distance and presumably more input from a broader sample of your readership, we ask you to reconsider this policy.
