Congratulations to the Jewish Standard for the comprehensive article by Shammai Engelmayer with its astute, specific, and careful analysis of Obama’s relations with Israel, describing with details and indisputable facts, the positive actions and expressions of support that Obama has provided to Israel. This careful reporting is an important response to the antipathy within some parts of the Jewish community about Obama concerning Israel. Whenever I ask about specific actions to justify the negativity that I’ve heard expressed, I hear either vague generalities or references to the incidents cited in the article about Obama’s remarks about the 1967 borders, the alleged rudeness to Netanyahu, or the “kishke” factor. Allison Hoffman’s article, about this “kishke” response being based more on emotion than fact, is a terrific addition to Rabbi Engelmayer’s article.
