Teaneck Shabbaton focuses on book
Temple Emeth in Teaneck will host its One Book, One Synagogue Shabbaton, which will explore the themes of Elizabeth Graver’s book, “Kantika.” The program, also on Zoom, on Saturday, February 8, begins at 9 a.m., with thematic text study, a Torah study session led by Rabbi Steven Sirbu on the works of Maimonides and Yehudah Halevy, who are mentioned in the book. At 10:30, the Shabbat service will incorporate the book’s themes. At noon, there’s a kiddush lunch, including a dish inspired by the book. Lunch is free, but RSVPs are required by February; to reserve, email lindaposkanzer@msn.com.
At 12:45 p.m., a documentary about a Turkish-Jewish family whose experiences are similar to “Kantika’s” Rebecca, called “Trees Cry for Rain: A Sephardic Journey” will be shown. On February 25 at 7:45 p.m., the author, Elizabeth Graver, will discuss “Kantika” on Zoom. For information on the Zoom link or about the programs, email smercado@emeth.org.
