The Teaneck Volunteer Ambulance Corps is running its annual blood drive, by appointment only, on October 26, from 2 to 8 p.m. The drive memorializes three late TVAC members who epitomized service to the community — Teaneck Police Captain Walter Pinches, TVAC chaplain Rabbi Stanley Fisch, and Navy veteran Bill Shambroom.
The blood drive is at the TVAC headquarters, 855 Windsor Road in Teaneck; all covid precautions are maintained. For more information, go to vitalent.org or call (201) 251-3703.
On Tuesday, October 27, Congregation Rinat Yisrael in Teaneck holds a blood drive with New Jersey Blood Services, a division of New York Blood Center, from 1 to 7 p.m. All covid precautions will be implemented. The Glen Rock Jewish Center hosts a blood drive on Sunday, November 1, in the shul’s social hall, from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. , in conjunction with the Red Cross. The shul is at 682 Harristown Road. Call (201) 652-6624 or (800) RED-CROSS for information; to schedule an appointment, go to redcrossblood.org and search for GRJC on the date.
Blood banks are facing blood shortages, high deferrals, and no shows. The Red Cross is taking additional precautions during this time to create the safest environment possible. This drive is extremely important to help fill blood banks during this critical time. Potential donors can call the eligibility hotline (866) 236-3276. There is a two-button prompt and then the caller will be connected to someone who can answer any question about eligibility.
