The Kaplen JCC on the Palisades’ Thurnauer School of Music, Northern New Jersey’s premier community music school, offers a full range of summer music distance-learning choices for families. Enrollment is open to students around the country and beyond; there is something for everyone, from babies through centenarians.
Thurnauer’s classes and lessons, taught by its distinguished faculty, provide stimulating, challenging, and fun-filled opportunities for students to develop their enjoyment and practice of music. Summer is a great time to learn a second instrument, put music technology to creative use, or jump-start your knowledge of music theory and history. Classes and lessons begin June 29 and run through August 10.
Private lessons are available for piano, guitar, percussion, flute, and all orchestra instruments.
Summer offerings include “What Makes It Great? Inside the Great American Songbook from Gershwin to Sondheim,” a 7-week session taught by Rob Kapilow, Thurnauer artist-in-residence and a renowned composer, conductor, author, and PBS/NPR commentator. There are Musikgarten classes for babies through age 7; music theory classes; instrument-focused workshops for guitar, viola, saxophone, flute, and flamenco guitar; ensemble workshops for chorus, jazz, and chamber music; and classes on electronic music technology, rhythmic poetry/spoken word, jazz history, and composition.
