Now that the official race lottery for the New York City Marathon has closed and slots for the run have been assigned, local runners who still want to run in the marathon on November 4 can join Team Blue Card. That way, they can run the marathon and also raise money for Holocaust survivors in need.

The Blue Card, named an official charity partner of the race, is the only U.S. organization with the sole mission of providing ongoing direct aid to Holocaust survivors in need. It assists many survivors in New Jersey. Of over 100,000 Holocaust survivors living in the country, an estimated one-third live at or below the poverty line, and it is hard for them to afford proper medical care, mental health care, food, and other basic necessities.

Members of Team Blue Card have raised more than $1,000,000 since 2009 at endurance sporting events in New York, Miami, and around the world. For more information, go to www.bluecardfund.org.
