Silence explained
In his excellent editorial “Shame on us all,” condemning the shameful and vile behavior of the charedi against young modern Orthodox girls, the editor strongly criticized the silence of Jewish leaders and also the serial letter writers. I plead guilty to this charge. I know that silence implies agreement. But my silence was in agreement with the critics of the charedi and certainly not in agreement with the shocking behavior. Today the world and hopefully the Jewish orthodox community see the sadness and horror of strife between sub-denominations within the Orthodox world. May this enlighten all of us to show greater respect, tolerance, and acceptance for a pluralistic Jewish people.
